2024 AMC 10/12

The 2024 AMC 10/12 will be held at Montgomery College Germantown campus on November 6th and 12th, 2024 from 3:00 p.m.-4:15 p.m.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.

The AMC 10 covers mathematics normally associated with grades 9 and 10. The AMC 10 assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. What are excluded are trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school mathematics curriculum, including the above as well as trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry but excludes calculus. The student will be able to use blank scratch paper, writing utensils, erasers, rulers, and compass.

There is NO cost for the student to take the AMC 10/12 at MC.

The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute competition for students in grade 8 and below. The material covered on the AMC 8 includes topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum. Possible topics include but are not limited to counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition, some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course. The student will be able to use blank scratch paper, writing utensils, erasers, rulers, and compass.

There is NO cost for the student to take the AMC 8 at Montgomery College.
