Call for Proposals

Confluence Translation Conference, April 4, 2020

Confluence brings together translators, interpreters, educators, and others interested in the field of translation, including its literary, practical, and philosophical dimensions. The conference offers interpretation and translation-focused workshops and presentations, and opportunities for discussion, networking, career development, and celebration.

Confluence organizers are seeking proposals for presentations and workshops to be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020, morning and afternoon. Conference sessions will feature a variety of concurrent workshops and presentations on translation, interpretation, and translation studies. The day’s schedule will offer opportunities for informal networking. Proposals will be accepted in four tracks:

  1. Techniques, practices, and problem-solving in translation/interpretation
  2. Business of translation/interpretation
  3. Art of literary translation
  4. Education in translation/interpretation

Proposals for workshops, panels, or other presentations are to include requirements for room setup and technical needs, if any. Conference rooms are equipped with a computer workstation, USB ports, CD player, internet access, and projection. Location: Health Sciences Building at Montgomery College, 7977 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910. Presentations should run no longer than 75 minutes.

Proposals are due by Friday, January 31, 2020. Please submit your proposal online through the Confluence proposal submission form.

It is expected that proposers will be informed about decisions by Friday, February 7, 2020. For the purpose of achieving a well-rounded conference, the organizers may solicit proposals at any time or may ask proposers to alter or consolidate presentations.

If you encounter any problems with online submission, please email Jeff Chuang or call 240-567-1697.
