For Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, the contribution is part of a broader interest in working with Montgomery College to serve the community and support students as they prepare for careers.
“We’re very focused on the community and what we can do, and there are so many ways we can serve the community together,” said Tamara Schiavone, CEO of Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union. “We want the ideas and the creativity, and there’s a lot of opportunity. We look at the College and our relationship and think we’re going to have a lot of beneficial interaction moving forward.”
“I want to go into economic research and focus on the development sector, so philanthropy and giving back really connect with what I hope to do in the future,” said Mahiya M. Khan, a Montgomery College Foundation student director. “I’m excited about these connections and grateful for Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union’s generosity.”
The investment comes as Montgomery College continues to build partnerships that connect students with the experiences and skills they need to thrive in the workforce and their communities. The College served more than 47,000 students in the past year, including more than 400 students who earned college degrees while still in high school.
Dr. Williams said the partnership demonstrates how student success is strengthened when the College works alongside employers and community organizations.
“Student success is something we build together,” Dr. Williams said. “We are grateful to have partners who want to help our students turn their potential into extraordinary outcomes.”
