Highlighting National Apprenticeship Week (Nov. '24), Montgomery College’s application to become a Sponsor of Registered Apprenticeships in Biotechnology was officially approved by the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council (MATC). This prestigious approval marks a significant milestone for the College and the biotechnology community.
The College's apprenticeship program offers a unique earn-as-you-learn opportunity, combining related instruction with on-the-job training to prepare apprentices for successful careers in the biotechnology and biomanufacturing fields. Montgomery College is proud to partner with industry leaders AstraZeneca (AZ) and Charles River Laboratories (CRL) to provide this invaluable experience.
“This is an exciting development and it offers a bright future to our students and the biotechnology industry,” said Dr. Richard Cerkovnik, director of the iSTEM Network at Montgomery College.
Recruitment of the first cohort of apprentices is set to occur this semester. Apprenticeships are crucial in bridging the gap between education and employment. They equip individuals with hands-on skills and experiences that meet industry demands, thereby strengthening the workforce and driving economic growth.
