Peer Advocates

Activities

Peer Advocates facilitate weekly Peer Support Groups on campus, focusing on a variety of social and academic topics and provide education on strategies for success.

Misinformation about mental health is a major factor that keeps stigma in place. Our Mental Health 101 workshops, led by our Peer2Peer Program. Peer Advocates, will dispel common myths about mental health, teach what a mental health disorder actually is, and give participants the basic tools to help themselves or loved ones who may be struggling.
Check back for new dates coming soon!

College is hard sometimes, so our Peer Advocates are here to listen. Not counselors, but MC students themselves, they have shared similar experiences are here to talk with you about the struggles balancing school and personal life, navigating MC resources, developing relationships, or anything else you'd like to talk about.

The Peer Advocates are located in the SHaW Center space on the Rockville Campus (SV 316) the following dates/times:
Mondays 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1 – 5 p.m.
Tuesdays  3:30 – 5 p.m.
Wednesdays 1 – 5 p.m.
Thursdays 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Fridays 9 – noon and 1 – 5 p.m.
*Advocates may be running groups or stress relief activities during these times and may not be available for 1-on-1 conversation.

All students are welcome to come by and chat.

We know how important it is to connect with others, especially during remote school. There are many challenges that different groups of people experience, so we're offering groups where students can meet, talk, listen, and learn about resources in a welcome and supportive space.

General Peer Support Groups
These groups are open to all!  Any MC student, regardless of language spoken or background is welcome to attend with Peer Advocates Carlos and Anne to discuss different topics each week. Interested in learning how to relieve stress or how to get involved on Campus after 2 years of virtual learning?  Want to talk about the frustrations of transitioning back to in-person learning?  This is the space to do it!

Drop in to group via Zoomnew window on Fridays.

Come in-person to the Rockville Campus SV302 on Fridays with Peer Advocate Carlos from 2 – 3 p.m.

Meet Mondays with Peer Advocate Anne from 2 – 3 p.m. virtually.

Grief Peer Support Group
This support group is for students experiencing grief and loss in it's many shapes. The group, led by Peer Advocate Brigette, addresses the needs of students by breaking down isolation and stigma and providing a safe and supportive space for students to share their stories and challenges and promote well-being.

In-person on the Rockville Campus SV316 every Monday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

While learning about stress management and coping skills is important, it's equally important to practice them!  Our Peer Advocates are running a variety of stress relief activities during the semester.
