Policies and Procedures

Montgomery College Rockville Entrance Sign

Policies at Montgomery College are adopted by the Board of Trustees and serve as statements of principle to inform decision-making and the conduct of College activities.

Procedures are issued by the College President and set forth action steps required to carry out a Board policy and/or a standard method for implementing actions.

Our official policies and procedures are segmented out into ten chapters.

Public comments will be accepted until October 16, 2026.

The proposed edits are limited clarifications to the recently modified procedure and do not represent changes in its intent or substantive requirements. As is sometimes the case following implementation of a revised P&P, applying the procedure has identified several places where the language could more precisely reflect the current or intended process. These opportunities may only become apparent as a procedure is put into practice and particular provisions receive closer scrutiny.

The edits clarify existing expectations regarding the eligibility of shortened-term chairs for preference of appointment to a full term; participation in interviews and forums; the Dean’s responsibility for recommending a candidate; application of the process to General Studies; and the timing of notice from chairs who do not intend to return. Collectively, the revisions are intended to improve clarity and consistency and support implementation of the procedure as originally intended.
