Cooks' Gift Fuels Student Success

Ken and Julie Cook’s $125,000 gift expands educational access and strengthens career pathways for students in nursing and business. Their investment supports scholarships, hands-on learning, and industry-recognized credentials—fueling student success and strengthening the community.

Guided by Montgomery College’s mission to change lives, elevate communities, and open doors to economic mobility, the Cooks’ gift reinforces the transformative power of education and the impact of those who believe in students’ potential.

Half of the gift establishes the Kennneth and Juliana Cook Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Scholarship, which provides critical financial support for students pursuing the LPN credential. The scholarship helps cover tuition, fees, books, exam preparation, and testing—removing financial barriers and empowering future nurses to enter a field where compassion meets urgent community need.

The gift also strengthens experiential learning and career readiness through the Kenneth and Juliana Cook MBI Finance Lab Simulation Software Fund. This investment gives Macklin Business Institute (MBI) students access to Bloomberg Market Concepts and other advanced simulation tools, delivering hands-on, real-world financial training. Students who complete the program may earn industry-recognized certifications that enhance transfer opportunities and career prospects.

In addition, the Kenneth and Juliana Cook MBI Finance Lab Transfer Scholarship supports high-achieving MBI scholars as they continue their academic journey at four-year institutions. The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in simulation work, digital badging, and internal competitions.

This gift carries special personal meaning for Ken. His support of the MBI honors his professional relationship with Gordon Macklin, while his commitment to nursing education reflects the influence of his board colleague Bill Hard and honors the memory of Pam Hard, whose passion for the nursing profession left a lasting impact.

Through this investment, the Cooks help Montgomery College students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive while building a stronger, more resilient community for all.
