The American Association for Women in Community Colleges–Montgomery College Chapter (AAWCC-MC) has been named a 2025 AAWCC Model Chapter, a national recognition honoring chapters that make significant contributions on behalf of women through programs, services, and leadership development.
The announcement was made during the AAWCC 51st Annual National Conference Nov. 7. The Model Chapter Award celebrates effective programs at community colleges that address the needs of women and promote equity, mentoring, and professional development.
Since launching in 2017, AAWCC-MC has nearly tripled its membership, awarded annual student scholarships, and led impactful service projects focused on wellness, food insecurity, and community support. Last year, the chapter hosted a conference that drew record-breaking attendance from women across four Maryland community colleges.
“We are truly honored by this distinction and deeply appreciative of the acknowledgment of our chapter's commitment to changing women's lives through education, service, and leadership development,” said Dr. Zenobia M. Garrison, president of AAWCC-MC. “This recognition affirms the collective efforts of our dedicated members and the support we receive from Montgomery College leadership, including Dr. Jermaine F. Williams whose vision for equity and belonging continues to inspire our work.”
The AAWCC Model Chapter Award initiative aims to increase membership and participation in AAWCC activities, encourage mentoring experiences for women, and promote information-sharing about programs that support women in community colleges.
