Montgomery College Awarded $286,000 in Federal Funding to Support Student Success

Montgomery College has been awarded $286,109 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services program. The grant, part of a larger $726,497 investment in community colleges across Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties, will support low-income students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities as they pursue higher education.

The funding was announced September 2new window by U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks and U.S. Representatives Steny Hoyer, Jamie Raskin, Glenn Ivey, and April McClain Delaney (all D Md.).

“A quality education opens doors to good-paying jobs and meaningful opportunities, but many still face unnecessary and unfair barriers to academic achievement – especially when it comes to college. These federal investments will enable community colleges in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties to provide students with the resources they need to overcome obstacles and succeed in college and beyond,” said the lawmakers from the Maryland Congressional delegation in a joint statement.

The TRIO Student Support Services program provides academic advising, tutoring, financial aid guidance, mentoring, and other resources designed to help students overcome barriers and achieve their educational goals. Nationally, the program was funded at $1.91 billion through the FY25 government funding bill.

Of the total funding, $440,388 was awarded to Prince George’s Community College and $286,109 to Montgomery College.
