Bobbi and Larry Shulman Make $200,000 Gift to Support Student Success and Cultural Learning

The Montgomery College Foundation received a $200,000 gift from longtime champions Bobbi and Larry Shulman, alongside an additional $50,000 contribution from Rockville-based law firm Shulman Rogers in honor of Larry Shulman. Together, these investments will expand opportunity, foster belonging, and support high-achieving students for generations to come.

Bobbi Shulman, who has served on both Montgomery College's Board of Trustees and its Foundation Board of Directors, and her husband, Larry Shulman, founding partner of Shulman Rogers, continue their legacy of leadership and service through this meaningful philanthropy. Their gift reflects a deep belief in education as a catalyst for opportunity and community impact.

The Shulmans made their gift through a donor-advised fund at the Greater Washington Community Foundation. The contribution will support two critical priorities at Montgomery College.

First, the Shulmans launched the Jewish Experience Fund with $150,000 to strengthen cultural understanding, foster belonging, and offer students immersive learning opportunities. The fund includes a $100,000 endowment for long-term programming and $50,000 for immediate student experiences. Programming will focus on cultural competency training and antibias education, support for Jewish American Heritage Month, and interfaith and inclusive initiatives. The fund advances the College's commitment to creating inclusive spaces where every student feels welcome, supported, and connected.

The Shulmans also invested $50,000 in the Presidential Scholars Program, which has been matched by Shulman Rogers, building new momentum for a fund that supports first-generation college men who have been historically and disproportionally under-resourced in higher education. These philanthropic investments will strengthen the community today and create brighter futures for generations to come.

“Bobbi and Larry Shulman live their values in everything they do,” said Bernadette Maldonado, vice president of Development and Alumni Relations and executive director of the Montgomery College Foundation. “Their giving reflects a deep respect for education, a belief in equity and inclusion, and a profound commitment to community. Through this support, the Shulmans are translating their principles into opportunity for students, affirming their belief that every learner deserves to belong, to be seen, and to thrive.”

Montgomery College President Jermaine F. Williams emphasized the lasting impact of the Shulmans' generosity. “The Shulmans have been steadfast champions of Montgomery College, and this extraordinary gift reflects their unwavering commitment to our students and our mission,”  Dr. Williams said. “Their investment in cultural understanding and academic excellence creates pathways for students to thrive, fostering the belonging and support that are essential to student success. We are deeply grateful for their leadership, vision, and dedication to opening doors of opportunity for generations of students to come.”

“Bobbi and Larry Shulman truly exemplify what it means to lead by example,” said board of directors chair Erica L. Webber. “Their longstanding dedication, both through service and generosity, reflects a deep commitment to building a stronger Montgomery College and creating more pathways for students to succeed.”

The combined $250,000 investment strengthens Montgomery College's capacity to serve diverse learners and create inclusive educational environments where all students can succeed.
