Welcome to the Student Success Network

Through our inclusion in the Achieving the Dream network, Montgomery College will be a national model of educational excellence for all students by minimizing institutional barriers and maximizing opportunities to access, success, and completion. In a rapidly changing, competitive society, we will promote learning, equity, diversity, and cultural responsiveness to support student success and retention. Through courageous leadership, we will champion sustainable transformation through analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and involvement in a community of practice. These efforts will result in more of our students achieving their educational goals.

Mission and Vision

MISSION: To lead and support a national network of community colleges to achieve sustainable institutional transformation through sharing knowledge, innovative solutions and effective practices and policies leading to improved outcomes for all students.

VISION: A nation in which community colleges are highly valued for preserving access and assuring that their students, especially low income students and students of color, achieve their goals for academic success, personal growth, and economic opportunity.

Our Team

The ATD Team, charged by Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard in 2016, is comprised of two internal committees and two ATD coaches who work collaboratively to shape the overarching student success vision and strategy for the institution.

Core Team

Leads the process of institutional change, serving as champions of the vision for equitable student success as well as supporting key initiatives.  They ensure communication between areas at the College, receive updates from responsible parties on the key initiatives, and make recommendations to the Senior Administrative Leadership Team as appropriate.

Data Team

The Data Team is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and sharing data regarding student progression and success. They serve as data ambassadors in order to catalyze efforts to build a culture of evidence at the institution. Additionally, the Data Team work closely with the Core Team, OIRE, and OIT in all ATD efforts. The Data Team will also review metrics for the programs and initiatives compiled in the Student Success Inventory to share insights and recommendations with the college community.

In addition, there are two ATD coaches who provide Montgomery College with ongoing access to expertise. The Achieving the Dream Leadership Coach, Dr. Karen Stoutnew window, strives to establish trusting relationships with the chief executive, his or her leadership group, and the core team. The Achieving the Dream Data Coach, Dr. Donna Jovanovich, guides the college in the development, analysis and use of student outcomes data to inform improvement efforts. The primary goal is to ensure that our institution develops a Culture of Evidence and Inquiry and uses student performance data to inform decision-making and guide resource allocation.

Dream Scholar

Each year, Achieving the Dream conducts a national competition among students of ATD Network colleges to participate in a year-long experiential learning program to enhance leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills. Students are nominated by their institution and selected through a competitive national application process. A hallmark of the program is for DREAM Scholars to attend and present at ATD’s annual professional development conference, DREAM. The 2019 cohort, which will convene in Long Beach, CA in February, includes Montgomery College student, Carol Faye Walls. You can learn more about Carol’s story by visiting the MC News Websitenew window. To view the full 2019 DREAM Scholars cohort, visit the Achieving the Dream news pagenew window.
