MI-BEST
The MI-BEST Certificate Courses are perfect for students whose English skills are high intermediate or more advanced, but still need improvement. This course has a test that if passed, will provide students with an industry-specific, nationally recognized certification. Many courses finish with job fairs and connections to employers looking to hire graduates.
With a certification in a specific industry, students’ likelihood of finding a higher-paying job is strong. Students may also want to enroll in other classes in the field or take other credit classes.

MI-BEST Classes
To determine if you qualify, you must attend a registration/orientation.
At registration/orientation sessions, you will learn more about what to expect from the specific course. Potential students take an English test, if needed, and participate in a short interview. The test and interview will tell us your level of English and what classes will best help you in your career. Potential students are then contacted within two weeks to inform them whether or not they are in the class. Students are required to attend an assignment session to receive their class assignment.

Do you want a good job in the growing field of childcare and need help with your English
language skills? ESOL Early Childhood Training printable flyer. (PDF, )
The EARN Early Childhood Education grant-funded program will prepare students to work in a variety of childcare settings with children from infancy through age eight. The curriculum consists of seven early childhood education courses, three ESOL courses, and a series of career readiness workshops to prepare you for the workforce. These noncredit courses may be applied towards the 120 clock class hours required for the Child Development Associate (CDA) national credential.
This program will help you to:
- Satisfy the MSDE state requirements to work in childcare in the state of Maryland.
- Get started on earning credits in the Early Childhood Education program at Montgomery College!

Step 2: Fill out the Application Form
Complete the SY 23-24 EARN Early Childhood Education Training application form. The link to the application will be shared during the information and assessment session. You will have 24 hours complete it after attending the information session.
