Project Management Microcredential
Montgomery College’s Project Management Microcredential is a three-badge pathway that helps students build practical project management skills valued across industries. Students begin with foundational project management concepts, then move into hands-on predictive and agile practice.These three classes can lead to a Microcredential and are prerequisites for all other Project Management Pathways.
Foundations of Project Management:
- Start with PM101: Project Management Standards and Approaches. Build and demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental standards, tools, and methodologies
used in project management, including predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches. Students
create foundational project artifacts such as a project charter, user stories, product
backlog samples, and a methodology selection reflection.
- To earn this badge, students must complete PM101, meet attendance and exam requirements, submit the required badge evidence, and demonstrate Competent or higher performance on all badge competencies.
Predictive PM Practitioner:
- Continue with PM102: Practical Application of Traditional Project Management. Apply predictive project management methods to define scope, create schedules, analyze
risks, measure project performance, and support project execution and closure. Students
create project artifacts such as a work breakdown structure, network diagram, risk
plan, earned value calculations, and final knowledge management reflection.
- To earn this badge, students must complete PM102, meet attendance and exam requirements, submit the required badge evidence, and demonstrate Competent or higher performance on all badge competencies.
Agile PM Practitioner:
- Complete PM103: Practical Application of Agile Project Management. Build skills for fast-moving project environments by applying agile and Scrum practices.
Students create user stories, prioritize and estimate work, build product backlogs,
plan sprints, and interpret burndown data to support continuous improvement.
- To earn this badge, students must complete PM103, meet attendance and exam requirements,
submit the required badge evidence, and demonstrate Competent or higher performance
on all badge competencies.
Complete all three badges to earn the Project Management Micro credential and showcase your ability to manage projects using foundational, predictive, and agile approaches in a range of professional settings.
- To earn this badge, students must complete PM103, meet attendance and exam requirements,
submit the required badge evidence, and demonstrate Competent or higher performance
on all badge competencies.
