Math Learning Skills Support Services

Academic Support for Math Students

We provide academic support for students preparing to register for or currently enrolled in MC math courses.

Our Services Include:

  • ALEKS Math Placement Support: Gain a clear understanding of the ALEKS Math Placement process, explore alternative math placement options, and receive support to get a reset or extension for your ALEKS account, upload ALEKS scores, obtain permission to take ALEKS Tests, and more.
  • Math Learning Skills Support: Enhance your academic success with workshops on time management and organization skills, math study and note-taking strategies, managing math and test anxiety, test-taking skills and exam preparation tips. We also bring workshops to in-person and online math courses by faculty invitation.
  • Campus Outreach: Campus events include MC Day (formerly Advising Day), Guided Placement Help Days, MC Open House, and more.
  • Referrals to College Resources: Get connected to a wide range of campus services that support your college math success.

Math Placement FAQs

Email from your MC Email to mathplacement@montgomerycollege.edu

  • Provide your MC M#, your last name, and your first name
  • Specify if you need to reset your ALEKS Math Account to create a new account, which you can access for one year
  • Or you need a three-month extension to complete the ALEKS Math Placement Process (your account must have expired very recently)
  • If you did not pass MATH 050, you cannot use ALEKS Math scores to test out of it.

  •  If you have taken MC math foundation courses like MATH 117 or MATH 120 and later completed ALEKS Test 2 or Test 3, email MathAdvising@montgomerycollege.edu from your MC student email. Include:

    • Your MC M#
    • Your first and last name
    • Your ALEKS math score report
  • ALEKS Test 2 or Test 3 score of 14 or higher places students in Math 117 with Math 017
  • ALEKS Test 2 or Test 3 score of 30 or higher places students in Math 117
  • SAT Math 530 or higher places students in Math 117
  • ACT Math 21 or higher places students in Math 117
  • A grade of C or better in MATH 050 places students in Math 117
  • ALEKS Test 2 or Test 3 score of 14 or higher places students in Math 130 with Math 030
  • ALEKS Test 2 or Test 3 score of 46 or higher places students in Math 130
  • SAT Math 570 or higher places students in Math 130
  • ACT Math 24 or higher places students in Math 130
  • A grade of C or better in MATH 050 places students in Math 130
  • A grade of C or better in MATH 050
