Assessment and Testing Centers

The Assessment and Testing Centers unit welcomes you. We offer information to students and faculty on a variety of testing services. The Centers provide a secure and accessible environment for testing services. We know completing an exam can be stressful. The materials and the resources available in this page should prepare you to complete this important task successfully.  

Our contact information is available at the bottom of this page for students and faculty for additional assistance. You can contact us live via Zoom office hours, via email, or by visiting one of the campus centers.

Academic Testing

This section offers information to currently enrolled students and faculty looking for assistance with in-person and online testing services. The centers work closely with Disability Support Services to provide most required testing accommodations.

Students with approved accommodations should also review this section to complete class exams.

Students with Documented Disabilities

If you are a student who needs accommodations related to your disability, you should contact Disability Support Services before scheduling an exam.

Before scheduling an appointment for testing, students must talk to their professor to ensure all approved accommodations have been included in the test request.

Testing Services Platforms

Assessment and Testing Centers provide in-person and online testing services. We use the RegisterBlast platform to process in-person testing. For online testing services, faculty and students will utilize the Examity platform. Both platforms are integrated with Blackboard.

DSS Accommodations

  • DSS students with double-time accommodations can use Examity for testing. However, some assistive technology does not work well in Examity. 
  • Assessment Center staff work closely with the Disability Support Services office, faculty and students to arrange approved accommodations for testing. 
How do Faculty submit tests?

  • Faculty will use their course dashboard in Blackboard to access Examity and submit test request.
  • Choose between 4 proctoring modalities: Automated, Automated + Audit, Live Authentication + Audit, Live Proctoring + Audit
  • Examity requires at least 24 hours to process test requests. Please submit exam requests with ample time particularly during peak times (i.e. midterms, final exams) to avoid delays. 
  • Faculty will use their course dashboard in Blackboard to access RegisterBlast and submit test request.
  • All exams must be in digital format to upload in the platform. No paper exams are accepted.
  • Assessment staff will process and approve test request during regular hours of operation.
  • Please submit exam requests with ample time particularly during peak times (i.e. midterms, final exams) to avoid delays.
How do students schedule appointments?
  • Students make test appointments through their Blackboard course in Examity. 
  • Students will need to download an Examity browser extension in their personal computer and complete a technology check before scheduling an appointment. 
  • Examity works in desktops, laptops (PC, Mac, Surface) & some Chromebooks. It does not work in tablets, iPads, or smartphones
  • Students, including those with accommodations, will access their course dashboard to schedule in-person testing appointments using the RegisterBlast tool.

Compatibility with other platforms

 

  • Compatible with WileyPLUS and similar platforms.
  • Examity and Respondus Lockdown Browser are not the same technology and are not compatible. 
  • Workstations in the Assessment & Testing Centers are equipped with Respondus Lockdown Browser, LanSchool for test proctoring and supervision. 
  • Assessment staff will work with faculty and IT to accommodate specific test formats or external platforms. 

 


Testing Services Options

Assessment and Testing Centers assist faculty and students with in-person and on-line testing services. For those interested in testing at one of our centers during regular hours, please review the information under In-Person Testing Services below. In-Person Testing Services

Assessment & Testing Centers will use the RegisterBlast platform for in-person academic testing services. This platform is integrated with Blackboard. This tool will allow faculty to submit exam requests through their course dashboard in Blackboard.

In-person testing will be available during regular hours of operations Monday through Friday by appointment only. Students will use their course dashboard in Blackboard to access RegisterBlast and schedule an appointment to take their exam at one of the on-campus testing centers.

By scheduling an in-person appointment, students will agree to: 

  • Testing centers are public, enclosed spaces. We strongly encourage students experiencing any respiratory symptoms, such as coughing or sneezing, to wear a mask while completing their academic exam.
  • Stay home if you are sick and contact your professor for an extension and reschedule your exam.
  • Bring a valid photo ID, such as an MC photo ID, state-issued driver’s license, or a passport. No digital or photocopies of identifications are accepted for testing. If you do not have your ID, you will be required to reschedule your appointment.
  • Store all electronic devices and any personal items in a secure locker prior to testing. These items are not allowed in the testing room. An assessment staff member will provide you with a key and a locker for your personal belongings.
  • Avoid bringing children or guests to your test appointment. They cannot enter the testing lab. Children are not allowed to be unattended outside of the testing center or any other area of the college.
  • Abide by the Montgomery College Student Code of Conduct (PDF, Get Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader - Link opens in new window) .
  • Test materials are secured and confidential. Any attempt to record, share and/or discuss test information outside the testing center will be reported to your professor for review.
  • All tests will be stopped, and all test materials will be collected 15 minutes before the testing center’s closing time.
  • Students with documented and approved accommodations must talk to their professors about their test accommodations before exam date. Your professor must record your authorized accommodations when they submit their exam request. 
  • Students with approved accommodations must arrive 15 minutes earlier to review and confirm all accommodations before testing.

RegisterBlast Student Resources
These resources provide students specific information on the RegisterBlast platform:

RegisterBlast is a web-based application that is used to manage faculty test requests and student appointments for in-person testing services. Faculty will add RegisterBlast to their course’s tool links, which makes it available to students. After RegisterBlast is added to their course dashboard, faculty will be able to submit their test requests. Assessment and Testing Center staff will receive, review and approve faculty's test requests during regular hours of operation. Once approved, students will have the ability to schedule their appointments through their course dashboard in Blackboard.  

For students with approved accommodations, faculty must include in their test request the student (s) name, M# and all approved accommodations. If you omitted any accommodations in the RegisterBlast exam submission, please email  AcademicTesting@montgomerycollege.edu as soon as possible. Students with approved accommodations should not schedule their exam appointments until accommodations are processed and complete.

Online Testing Services

Assessment & Testing Centers will use Examity for remote academic testing. Examity is an online remote proctoring tool integrated with Blackboard. Faculty and students will interact directly with Examity to submit test materials, schedule appointments, and troubleshoot any issues during a testing session. Faculty will use their course dashboard in Blackboard. to submit test requests to Examity. Students will also schedule test appointments through their course dashboard in Blackboard.

Examity is an online proctoring tool that interacts with your exam in Blackboard. It offers automated and live proctoring modalities which are set by the faculty. This list of resources below includes PDFs and videos that explain how Examity is set up. Faculty should review these materials thoroughly.

For technical issues with Blackboard, faculty should send a ticket to IT: itservicedesk@montgomerycollege.edu. For technical issues with Examity, faculty should send an email to bpoulin@examity.com for assistance. Include the name of your course and a description of the problem.

During an exam session, students should use the tech support available during the session. If the exam session is over, students should email support@examity.com or their professor for further assistance.

Examity Webinars

Students with Documented Disabilities
If a student in your class indicates they need an accommodation, instruct them to contact Disability Support Services (DSS) immediately.  If you are provided with a letter of accommodation from DSS, review the DSS Faculty/Staff Guidelines for guidelines on DSS accommodations. 

For students with approved accommodations that require alternate testing formats, it is recommended they take their test through a proctoring session with the Assessment Centers via Zoom during current operating hours. To set up a proctoring session, please provide the information listed below to AcademicTesting@montgomerycollege.edu

  • Name and course number for the class
  • Your contact information, including phone number in the event of emergency on exam day
  • Name(s) of the student to be tested and the M# if available
  • Information about the accommodation needed (copy of the DSS letter not needed)
    • Double time, assistive technology, additional breaks, etc.
  • Details about the test and the session
    • Blackboard exam link and exam password
  • The time allowed to complete the exam. Faculty should provide ample time to include any logistics to coordinate with DSS students and the DSS office, if needed.
  • Date range when the exam can be completed
  • Note any other items permitted during the test
    • Online tools, formula sheets, calculator, notes, etc.

Assessment staff will confirm the information and reach out to the student to set up the exam session. Assessment staff will notify the professor once the exam is scheduled and once the exam has been completed. 

Other Faculty Resources for Online Testing
The College has other online resources to assist faculty and students with remote testing. Here are some suggestions:

Respondus
A fully automated proctoring system built with LockDown Browser that integrates with Blackboard. Test takers access their exams in the class shell and use a webcam to record their exam session. To learn more, visit the Respondus resources page. 

Respondus Instructor Live Proctoring
Enables instructors to use a video conferencing system (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet) for live, remote testing.

LockDown Browser prevents cheating on the computer or device itself, while the instructor watches students via video conferencing. This mode is recommended for small, synchronous classes where instructors can effectively manage and observe students during the exam. Zoom
A video conferencing tool that can be connected to the Blackboard course shell. The professor can meet with the students through a Zoom session for lectures, discussions, pre-recorded videos and to monitor quizzes and exams. The Additional Testing section provides information on a variety of assessments including but not limited to CLEP, GED, and TEAS.  The centers also work closely with Disability Support Services to provide most required testing accommodations for these assessments.

CLEP (College-Level Examination Program)

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives students the opportunity to receive college credit for what they already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the 33 exams that are offered. MC does not provide credit for all exams.  See the list of CLEP exams and MC course equivalencies.

CLEP exams are administered by appointment at all three Montgomery College campus Assessment & Testing Centers.

Students with Documented Disabilities

What to Bring on Test Day

  • Your CLEP Registration Ticket. This is accessible in your College Board account. You must bring your ticket or you will not be able to test.
  • Proof of identity with a valid, current (not expired) photo ID. Temporary receipts, photocopies or cell phone images are not accepted. Examples of accepted IDs include:
    • Government-issued ID
    • State-issued driver's license or MVA ID card with photo
    • Current passport
    • Active military photo ID

What Not to Bring on Test Day
Leave the following items at home or in your car, as they are not permitted in the exam room:

  • Additional apparel: This includes, but is not limited to, jackets, coats, hats and sunglasses.  Discretionary allowances are made for religious apparel. All apparel is subject to inspection by the proctor.
  • Personal items: These include, but are not limited to, purses, computer bags, backpacks, and duffel bags.
  • Electronics: These include, but are not limited to, cell phones, smart phones, beepers/pagers, calculators, and digital or smart watches.
  • Food or drink: This is only permitted as a documented, medically necessary accommodation.
  • Testing proctors will ask applicants to place personal items in a locker. A locker and key will be provided.

What to Expect on Test Day

  • Testing staff will check your photo ID and review testing procedures with you.
  • Physically present proctors in the room will monitor for irregular behavior. Any misconduct or disruption will lead to dismissal and is reported to College Board. 
  • The proctor will provide you with scratch paper for use during the exam. All paper, in its entirety, must be returned to the proctor at the end of the testing session.
  • Scheduled rest breaks are not provided. If you must briefly leave the testing room for an unscheduled break, you will not be given extra time to complete the exam. 
  • If, during the exam, you have a technical issue with your computer, a testing-room issue, or for any reason need the proctor, raise your hand.

TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills for Health Sciences Students)

Montgomery College administers Version 7 of the TEAS.

All applicants who are interested in applying to any of the following health sciences programs at MC should register to take the ATI TEAS: Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy Assistant. 

MC applicants should select "TEAS for Nursing" when registering to take the TEAS. TEAS scores are good for 24 months.

TEAS is available in two formats:

  • TEAS at ATI (Remote Proctored TEAS)
    • ATI schedules and remotely proctors the TEAS.
    • Applicants create an account and register directly with ATI at https://www.atitesting.com. Montgomery College does not process registration or payment for this test. 
    • Choose "Remote Online" on the ATI registration page. Here is a video with a demonstration.
    • When applicants complete their TEAS assessment, scores are available in their ATI account for printing and attaching to applications.
    • Applicants may request ATI to send a transcript of scores to the health science program of their choice. The registration fee includes one free transcript.
    • You must work directly with ATI to arrange authorized accommodations and resolve any testing issues. 
    • The cost is $120 per applicant. 
  • TEAS at Montgomery College
    • In-person TEAS appointments are available at MC Assessment & Testing Centers.
    • Applicants create an account and register directly with ATI at http://www.atitesting.com. Montgomery College does not process registration or payment for this test.
    • Choose "In-Person" on the ATI registration page. Here is a video with a demonstration.
    • Applicants may view their TEAS score report in their ATI account for printing and attaching to applications.

    • The cost is $107 per applicant.

 Students with Documented Disabilities

  • Registered Montgomery College students can receive accommodations through the Montgomery College DSS department.
    • To register at MC, follow the instructions in this webpage: Getting Started: How to Apply and Register. 
    • Review the information on the DSS webpage and complete the online intake form.
    • Let the counselor know that you would like to schedule a TEAS exam.
    • Your DSS counselor will coordinate with the Assessment & Testing Centers about your accommodations for the TEAS. 
    • If one of your accommodations is for a reduced distraction environment (private room), we recommend that you register to take TEAS at the Rockville campus
  • If you are not a registered Montgomery College student, please to go to the ATI Website for more information on setting up your accommodations directly with ATI.

What to Bring on Test Day

  • If you need to leave your seat at any time other than the scheduled break, raise your hand for the proctor. Time for the exam section will not stop. Lost time cannot be made up.
  • If, during the exam, you have a technical issue with your computer, or for any reason need the proctor, raise your hand.
  • Test challenges or testing-room complaints should be reported to the proctor before leaving the room on exam day.

GED® Testing 

Students interested in taking the GED® test at Montgomery College should complete the following steps:

Step 1: Review Maryland State GED® Testing Requirements

  • You must be a Maryland state resident to take the GED® Test in Maryland
  • You must be at least 19 years old, or have officially withdrawn from High School by submitting a Withdrawal/Exception Form to the Maryland GED® Office.
  • Visit the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation website for state requirements and forms: GED® Test Informationnew window
  • Note: Non-state residents cannot complete the GED® test in Maryland

Step 2: Create a GED® Account to Schedule an Appointment Online

  • Visit GEDnew window to create your profile. If needed, request testing accommodations directly with GED®
  • Schedule your appointment and the exam modules you want to complete; recommendation: no more than two modules per appointment
  • Select Montgomery College for your appointment; available testing dates and times will appear depending on your campus selection.
  • Note: All scheduling is coordinated directly with GED®, not Montgomery College

Step 3: Attend and Complete Your GED® Appointment

  • Report to the Montgomery College Assessment Center where you appointment is schedule at least 15 minutes beforehand.
  • Bring an accepted, current form of identification to your GED® test appointment:
    • Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration driver’s license, learner’s permit or identification card, or a current active duty military identification card, a valid passport and a second document such as a recent utility bill, phone bill, bank statement, cable bill, or lease agreement.  
    • Note: Out of state licenses or expired documents will not be accepted. There are no ID waivers.

Information and Resources for Students Interested in PREPARING for the GED® test

What is the GED® Test?

The General Educational Development (GED®) test is completed on the computer, and covers four subjects in four separate exam modules
The GED® exam modules are:

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA): 155 minutes
  • Mathematical Reasoning: 120 minutes
  • Science: 95 minutes
  • Social Studies: 75 minutes

With the exception of the RLA exam, GED® exam modules can completed in English or Spanish. Exam items include multiple choice, short response, fill-in-the blank, drop-down, drag-and-drop, and extended response.

What Is a Passing Score on the GED® Test?  

The GED® test has a passing score of 145 for each module. To earn your Maryland high school equivalency, you will need to score 145 on all four modules.
Students who achieve a score of 165 or higher in the Reasoning Through Language Arts and/or Mathematical Reasoning modules are eligible to enroll in college-level English and mathematics courses at Montgomery College.
