Cosmetology

Cosmetology is the art and science of beauty care and is regulated by the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists. Our instructors are qualified and licensed with many years of teaching experience. Our students are successful with achieving licensure (if applicable) and transferring their skills to the industry.

The nail technician training program provides 250 hours of instruction in preparation for licensure from the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists. The program is offered in a three course-format.

50-Hour Course. This course approved by the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists, is the first in a series of three courses taken to prepare participants to apply for the state required examination to become a licensed nail technician. Instruction includes theory, demonstration, and practical application.
100-Hour Course. This is the second of three required courses needed to sit for the examination to become a licensed nail technician in Maryland. You will learn manicure and pedicure techniques, electric filing, and how to apply nail tips and wraps. Anatomy and physiology of the hand and nails is reviewed. Safety protocols are emphasized.
100-Hour Course. This is the last in a series of three required courses needed to sit for the exam to become a licensed nail technician in Maryland.
WDCE Career Path Scholarship. Up to $1,000 covers tuition and fees only, pending available funding. Applications are only accepted during the specified time period. Early, late, or incomplete applications will not be eligible for funding. Students usually choose to pay for the COS005 or COS006 course apply the scholarship to COS005 or COS006 to take advantage of the full award amount. Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship. Up to $2,000 covers tuition, fees, and associated costs of attendance that have not been met through another grant or scholarship. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered. Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER). The Governor of Maryland has established a fund to help residents impacted by COVID enroll in workforce training classes that lead to a credential, so that you can get a job more easily. Up to $3,500 covers tuition and fees. Up to $1,000 for technology needs related to remote instruction for courses over 18 hours. Up to $500 for other fees (e.g. books, licensing exam fees). Funds are available until September 30, 2021, or until the money runs out, whichever happens first. The make-up artistry training program provides 64 hours of instruction in professional make-up application, skincare techniques, and business development through hands-on training and classroom instruction. The program is offered in a two-course format. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion.
40-Hour Course. This class is for beginning and intermediate-level students who want hands-on-training in the makeup artistry industry. Learn tips and tricks from the professionals. Learn how to create the latest makeup looks. You will receive demonstration and hands-on training in the skilled trade of makeup artistry. Topics include the origins of makeup, sanitation, skincare techniques, and tools and products used to apply makeup. Learn how to identify and apply the correct makeup techniques for different face and eye shapes, execute corrective eyebrow grooming, and proper foundation for a specific look. Required: Students must bring a basic makeup kit to class and dress in the industry standard of professional solid black attire for the duration of the course.
24-Hour Course. This class is a continuation of Makeup Artistry for the Professional.
Prerequisite: Completion of Makeup Artistry I

The natural hair care education certificate program provides 36 hours of instruction. The course is designed for hairstylists, licensed cosmetologists, braiders, and individuals interested in learning about care for hair without the use of permanent chemicals.
Invest in yourself. The Natural Hair Care certificate provides hair stylists with skills in natural hair care and styling, hair transition, client retention, and hair locking techniques. The course is taught by a licensed senior cosmetologist who has over 30 years of natural hair business experience.
