Open Gallery in the Cafritz Arts Center

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts is calling for exhibition proposals for the Open Gallery in The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Arts Center that address the theme of “Transcending Borders.”

For the 2020/2021 season, we invite artists to work with real or perceived restrictions, containments, rules, or labels in such a way as to push beyond their limitations. These borders could be self-imposed, cultural, societal, physical, or natural divisions. This exhibition would be an opportunity to challenge, question, conform, or break these constraints.

Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Current Montgomery College students are not eligible to submit proposals.

Eligible works: The Open Gallery is primarily linear wall space that can accommodate two-dimensional works up to 54” tall. Freestanding, pedestal, and wall-hung three-dimensional works up to 75 pounds will also be considered. Video and digital works that can be displayed on monitors will be considered. Video projections are not eligible. A floor plan of the Open Gallery is available below.

The deadline for Open Gallery proposals is March 22, 2020, at 11:59 p.m.
