Student Success Inventory

Montgomery College has created a 2018-2019 Student Success Inventory that catalogs student success strategies designed to improve student outcomes and use data for the expressed purpose of tracking student performance.  These strategies support various student outcomes, including the Student Success Goals that were approved by the Board of Trustees in June 2018. In addition, these strategies align with Montgomery College’s Achieving the Dream Priorities.

Achieving the Dream Priorities

Based on analysis of our ICAT results, institutional data including The Student Voice report and the Student Success Score Card, and feedback from our leadership and data coaches, we have developed the following priorities:

  • Comprehensive Scheduling for Student Success
Major Goal: Establish a comprehensive schedule that fosters student retention and completion by scheduling at the intersection of demands of curriculum pathways and students’ availability.

  • Comprehensive Advising
Major Goal: Create a comprehensive approach to advising that supports students at certain milestones.

  • Start Smart
Major Goal: Further a common student experience by helping students to start smart with a successful introduction to college work.

  • Guided Pathways
Major Goal: Develop an integrated, institution-wide approach to student success based on intentionally designed, clear, coherent and structured education experiences … that guide each student effectively and efficiently from his/her point of entry through to attainment of high-quality postsecondary credentials and careers with value to the labor market (language adapted from AACC Pathways Project).

Montgomery College Foundation Awards Innovation Fund Grant for Visit to Pierce College District, an ATD Leader Schoolnew window

The Montgomery College Foundation has awarded Innovation Fund grants for 2018-2019 initiatives that address student success, equity and completion. Among the recipients are:

Lessons Learned: Building a Culture of Evidence at Pierce College, an ATD Leader School

Description: After joining Achieving the Dream (ATD), Montgomery College adopted a student success vision prioritizing comprehensive scheduling, comprehensive advising, guided pathways, and a Start Smart enrollment process. These endeavors require data-driven decision-making. An MC team will visit Pierce to learn how they have engaged faculty and staff in a culture of evidence intended to re-engineer student experiences to maximize retention and to reduce developmental math and English sequences.
