Nursing Refresher Classroom

This course, in either tradition classroom or a blended online format is designed for RNs and LPNs who desire to maintain or re-establish their active license to reenter the nursing field. Experienced nurses will review topics such as anatomy and physiology systems, major disease pathology, current treatment strategies and legal issues, pharmacology, physical assessment, nursing process, documentation, current trends, and end-of-life issues.
Nursing Refresher Classroom, ▲ NUR057, 100 Hours
This course, in tradition classroom format, is designed for RNs and LPNs who desire to maintain or re-establish their active license to reenter the nursing field. Experienced nurses will review topics such as anatomy and physiology systems, major disease pathology, current treatment strategies and legal issues, pharmacology, physical assessment, nursing process, documentation, current trends, and end-of-life issues.
Concurrent enrollment in Traditional Program - NUR023 and NUR007; you must register for the classroom, lab, and clinical in order to use the Tuition Installment Payment plan. There is a non-refundable fee to participate in the payment plan. Make-up hours will be added if inclement weather occurs. Maryland Board of Nursing requires 100 hours of classroom content.

Nursing Refresher Online, ▲ NUR069, 100 Hours
This course is designed for RNs and LPNs who desire to maintain or re-establish their active license to reenter the nursing field. The program includes both online and hands-on experience. The theory portion of the course will be delivered totally online and will include: online lectures to include topics such as reviewing anatomy and physiology, major disease pathology, current treatment strategies and legal issues, pharmacology, physical assessment, nursing process, documentation, current trends and end-of-life issues, videos, discussion groups and other learning activities. Attendance is required for three on-campus labs, which will be taught in the skills lab at Montgomery College and clinical, which will be taught off-campus.

Upon Completion of Nursing Refresher, students will be able to:
- Describe the current social factors, trends, evidence-based practice, and ethical dilemmas facing nursing.
- Identify effective communication techniques utilized in the health care setting.
- Describe the implementation of standard precautions when providing patient care.
- Perform nursing procedures and use equipment according to guidelines.
- Prepare to administer medications.
- Discuss various means of documentation in the health care setting.
- Discuss legal aspects of nursing related to licensure, practice, and documentation.
