Earning a degree in General Studies at Montgomery College will help prepare you for the next level, whether that's joining the workforce or transferring to a four-year university.
Our General Studies Program provides an opportunity for you to focus your studies in one of three discipline cores, a combination of those areas, or a chance to start your journey while exploring your options.
Students enrolled in General Studies at Montgomery College will need to complete at least 15 credits from courses offered within a chosen core discipline, including a minimum of 3 credits at the 200 level.
Begin your studies by focusing on General Education courses. As a General Studies Undecided (GENU) student, you may earn up to 24 credits before deciding on a core discipline area.
All GENU students must select a core before completing 30 credits in order to meet degree requirements and graduate.
Students opting to enter as GENU are strongly encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to discuss their options when determining what is best for their academic and career goals.
Montgomery College is committed to your success. If you have questions about the General Studies program, you may schedule an appointment with the Counseling Office, a program advisor (PDF, ) , or request a program advisor. You may also email us at email@example.com.
