General Studies Program at Montgomery College

Earning a degree in General Studies at Montgomery College will help prepare you for the next level, whether that's joining the workforce or transferring to a four-year university.

Our General Studies Program provides an opportunity for you to focus your studies in one of three discipline cores, a combination of those areas, or a chance to start your journey while exploring your options.

Focus Options for General Studies
Humanities, Arts, Communication and Languages Core: English | FilmHistory | Philosophy | World Languages
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Core: Data Science  | Pre-STEM Major | Pre-Nursing
Social Sciences, Administration and Health Core: Anthropology| Economics | Homeland Security | Political Science | Psychology | Sociology

There is also a fully online degree option and a z-degree option (no textbook purchases required). 

Students enrolled in General Studies at Montgomery College will need to complete at least 15 credits from courses offered within a chosen core discipline, including a minimum of 3 credits at the 200 level.

The Humanities, Arts, Communication and Languages Core allows students to begin their studies in the following areas: English, Film, History, Linguistics, Philosophy, Women’s and Gender Studies and World Languages.

The Social Sciences, Administration and Health Core allows students to begin their studies in the following areas: Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.
