Identity Verification Frequently Asked Questions

Identity verification helps Montgomery College confirm who is applying and enrolling. It ensures that the person who applies for classes is the same person who completes the coursework and earns academic credit.

Many colleges use identity verification. It also helps protect you if someone else tries to use your name or personal information. Most students complete this step quickly and without difficulty.

No. This step does not slow down your application.
Most students hear back about their application within a few business days after submitting it.

After you submit your Montgomery College application, you will receive a secure message from Montgomery College by text message or email with a link.

When you open the link, you will:

  1. Take photos of your ID
  2. Take a selfie using your device camera

You do not need to answer questions or speak with anyone. The process usually takes less than two minutes.

You will need a governmentissued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport. Military IDs, police IDs, and CAC cards cannot be used.

During the process, you will take new photos:

  • The front and back of your ID
  • A selfie (a photo of your face)

You cannot upload photos you already have stored on your device. If your name appears slightly different on your ID, that is usually okay.

No. You do not need to download anything.

If your device can take photos and open a text or email, you can complete the process.

The process usually takes less than two minutes once you open the link. To make it easy:

  • Have your ID ready
  • Make sure your camera is working

If you provided an international phone number, you will receive an email instead of a text message.

The email will include a secure link to complete identity verification.

You may use any device with a working camera.

You can use:

  • A tablet
  • A computer with a webcam
