Health Sciences Admissions

Montgomery College's rigorous health sciences programs have additional admission and enrollment requirements. Learn more about our programs, then follow the steps below when you're ready to apply.

How to Apply for Health Sciences Programs

Some programs may have additional steps or requirements; attend an information session for details.

Most health science programs hold monthly information sessions to share information about the curriculum, the admission requirements, and the application process. Most information sessions are conducted by the Program Coordinator with special guests to answer questions about the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).

Some programs require you to pre-register for a Zoom by clicking on a Register Now link or emailing the program coordinator directly. Click on the program below to go directly to that Program’s Admissions Information and Resources webpage. Follow the instructions on that webpage to attend an upcoming information session.

If you haven’t already applied to Montgomery College, submit the admissions application. If applicable, submit official copies of any prior learning: college, military, and Excelsior College Exam transcripts; results from international transcript evaluation services; and AP, IB, CLEP, DSST or DANTES test scores to the Office of Records and Registration for review. If you attended Montgomery College, DO NOT include a transcript from Montgomery College. We will generate one when you submit your Health Sciences Application. A transcript evaluation will help you to ensure that you do not duplicate coursework. Review the requirements for each program (PDF, Get Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader - Link opens in new window)  .

The ATI TEAS is a timed, computer-based, multiple-choice assessment test used by the Health Sciences Institute and Center at Montgomery College to evaluate the academic preparedness of entry-level health sciences students in reading comprehension, math, science, and English and language usage.

We strongly encourage students applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Polysomnography programs to prepare for the TEAS. The TEAS is not required for surgical technology. Plan to attend a TEAS information session to understand how TEAS is used in the application process, to connect with available resources, and to learn how to best prepare for the exam.

Meet with a College counselor for help creating your academic plan. Be sure to complete steps 1 through 3 above first.
After studying for the TEAS, register to take the exam. You will take the TEAS at one of Montgomery College's Assessment Centers.

In addition to the main MC admissions application, you must submit a completed Health Sciences Programs Selective Admissions Application and all related materials by the deadline.

A Montgomery College email address is required to complete this form. You may be prompted to log in to your college account again to access the form. If you have difficulty accessing it, contact the Health Sciences Department Chair, Timothy Fuss, at Timothy.Fuss@montgomerycollege.edu.

All students who submit an application will receive written notification advising them whether or not they have been admitted into their program of choice. Students who are selected for admissions into the Health Sciences programs will be notified by email.

Students who applied for the programs that start during the summer (Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, and LPN to RN), March 1 deadline, should receive notification in the mail by the end of April. Students who applied for the programs that start in the fall (March 1 deadline), should receive notification in the mail by the end of May. Students who applied for the Nursing program (April 1 deadline) should receive notification in the mail by the end of June. Students who apply for spring admissions into the nursing program (August 1 deadline) should receive notification in the mail by the end of September.

Application Deadlines

  • For all programs except nursing, the application deadline for the fall semester is March 1. Radiologic technology, diagnostic medical sonography, and surgical technology students begin classes in May.
  • For nursing, the application deadline for the fall semester is April 1 and for the spring semester is August 1. Only those students who are ready to begin their professional/clinical courses should apply.

Admission Requirements

  • You must be able to attend class on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus.  Montgomery College health sciences programs listed on this page are available ONLY at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus.
  • You must have the minimum requirement and a minimum GPA of 2.5 for consideration. This GPA is based on your most recent 24 college credits earned. If you are a recent high school graduate with fewer than 24 college level credits, high school records will be included in this calculation. Official transcripts are required.
  • For Programs Requiring the TEAS test: GPA will be used for eligibility purposes only. You must complete the TEAS test and attach scores to this application. You must meet the minimum Adjusted Individual Scores or above in the subjects listed for your program of choice. Students may only take the test twice during a 12-month period. The most recent score will be used. The Adjusted Individual Total Score will be used to rank eligible students.
  • Health Sciences admissions will be based on courses completed and grades earned through the prior fall semester only. Spring admission (nursing only) will be based on courses completed through the prior spring semester only. (Example: If applying for fall 2021 (March 1 deadline) courses completed by fall 2020 will be used; if applying for spring 2022 (August 1 deadline), courses completed by the end of spring 2021will be used).
  • Eligible students who are selected for admissions into each Health Science program will be notified by email. Complete program acceptance will be dependent upon satisfactory criminal background checks and drug test results for clinical rotation placements.
  • It is highly recommended that applicants with transfer credits view their transcript evaluations before the application deadline to ensure that they have the courses that are needed for admissions into their program of choice. Transcript evaluations can be viewed by logging in to MyMC.
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all the required documents are submitted to the Office of Records and Registration before the application deadline.
  • Applicants who have completed all or some of the priority courses (PDF, Get Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader - Link opens in new window)  for their program of choice will be given first consideration. You may apply without completing any of the priority courses; however, this will make your application less competitive.
